Artist Spotlight, Westmoremalas
PoCo Inspired: Tell us a bit about yourself
Westmoremalas: I am a Yoga teacher. When I’m not doing that, I look for time to make jewelry, hang out with my sweet little puppy Peach or you can find me scouring thrift shops/flea markets in search of vintage treasures.
PoCo Inspired: When did you first start making jewellery and what was the first piece you ever made?
Westmoremalas: I dabbled in making jewelry in my youth but didn’t really revisit it until 2016. My first piece was a turquoise (my favorite colour & stone) bracelet with an ohm charm!

PoCo Inspired: What inspires your creativity when making a new piece of jewellery?
Westmoremalas: I draw inspiration intuitively from many areas and love any task that allows me to be creative, but I find myself particularly inspired in making pieces that help to balance the chakras.
PoCo Inspired: What is the single most important skill you have learned and why?
Westmoremalas: Being self taught, the whole journey has been a constant learning process, and all skills learned hold value but I must say that I’ve found nothing more tedious (yet satisfying in the end) than making handmade tassels!

PoCo Inspired: What challenges do you face in your work?
Westmoremalas: Beyond hand making tassels, the biggest challenge that I’ve taken on is creating custom orders where I work with individuals to bring their visions/wants to life! It challenges me to think outside of my own creative box and allows me to step into the creative minds of others!
PoCo Inspired: What is your biggest achievement so far in your business?
Westmoremalas: The most rewarding achievement in my work with jewelry has been cultivating the ability to visualize a piece and then create it. I started making pieces because I wasn’t finding exactly what I wanted in stores and now I am grateful to be able to create exactly what I want.
